The Story of The Universe
The Law of Gravity
These were the laws God gave.
And in obedience to those laws the little
drop of nothingness which has made our
world went on turning and turning and
moving around and around the sun.
The earth and the sun and the stars were
balls of gas-gas which contained in itself all the
elements of which our world, the earth, is made.
The elements moved on their courses through
space, which is so cold that ice is hot by
comparison. If you put your hand into
ice-cold water, it becomes cold.
For the same reason, the stars and
the sun and the earth gradually grew colder
as time went on, and cooled the smaller balls
more quickly than the larger ones. The earth, which
is tiny compared to the sun, has become quite cold
outside while the sun is still blazing in the heavens.
