MONTESSORI ZOOLOGY : External Parts of Porifera

 The Poriferan

Poriferans are the most primitive
animals with one than one cell. They
are sac-like, but full of holes or pores.

Body

The body of the poriferan is vase-like
and made of many cells. The body has
two walls and is hollow on the inside.

Pores

The pores are openings of the
poriferan. Water flows in through
these pores. Because of the pores,
these animals are called porifera.

Spicules

The spicules are little needle-like
spikes all over the poriferan. Spicules
help to stiffen and support the body.

Osculum

The osculums is the large opening
in the poriferan through which
water leaves the body.
