Aerobic Bacteria
Nitrogen-fixing aerobic bacteria are
able to change free nitrogen into organic
nitrogen. Organic nitrogen is required by
most plants to grow. In nitrogen-poor soil,
nitrogen fixing aerobic bacteria form a close
relationship with the root part of the plant.
As the bacteria become a part of the
modules of the root hairs, they change
the nitrogen into organic nitrogen, which is
needed by the plant. Plants on their own cannot
change free nitrogen into organic nitrogen.
