KINGDOM PROKARYOTAE
Phylum Thiopneutes
Thiopneutes live and grow only in the
absence of free oxygen. Thiopneutes
require sulfate for respiration. During the
process of respiration sulfate is reduced
to free sulfur or hydrogen sulfide.
Thiopneutes feed on organic compounds
in order to complete the respiration
process. Thiopneutes move by
means of one or more flagella.
Theion : sulfer (Greek)
Pneutes : breather (Greek)
