MONTESSORI BIOLOGY : Phylum Spirochatae

KINGDOM PROKARYOTAE

Phylum Spirochaete

 Spirochaetes look like long slender
spirals or corkscrews. Spirochaetes
have two or more than a hundred flagella.
The flagella are located internally between
the layers of the cell walls. The flagella near
one end of the cell reach about two
thirds the length of the cell.

Other flagella originates at other points on
the inner cell wall and extend around the cell.
The result is a crisscrossing of flagella.
The movement of the flagella provides
movement for the spirochaete.

Spira : coil (Latin)
Khaite : long hair (Greek)
