Biomes of The World
Polar Regions
Both the Arctic and Antarctic have
long cold winters of ice and snow with
little or no daylight for months. The ground
is frozen for most of the year and icebergs
are found in the coastal waters. The
summers are cool with long daylight
hours and sparse vegetation.
The tundra comes alive for a short summer
to become the home of plants and insects
that had been dormant. Larger animals
migrate back to the area to feed. Fewer
plants and animals live in Antarctica
than in the Arctic region.
