The Coming of Life
The Triassic Period
The name of this period means
three because its rock sediments are
divided into the strata. It also marked
the beginning of the Mesozoic Era,
also called the Age of Reptiles.
This is the earliest period
of the Mesozoic Era. The reptiles were
the first to live and lay eggs on the land,
though some went back to the water.
The reptiles overshadowed all the
other animals, having no enemies
they were able to multiply and
develop into great dinosaurs.
This was a very warm period.
The dinosaurs could resist the heat
of the sun due to their amour-like
skin covering. They were both
vegetarian and carnivorous.
The carnivorous reptiles had
terrible teeth. The reptiles laid eggs
on the land - but these eggs needed
moisture so the reptiles formed a shell
around the moist egg. They left them
in the sun which hatched them.
Other species, the flying reptiles,
developed wings and membrane
similar to the wing of the bat.
