The first important discoveries about
illness were made by the Egyptians. Although
they were greatly influenced by superstition and
religious beliefs, they were far ahead of any other
civilization of their time in the study of medicine.
Their work was based on the study of anatomy,
and their doctors learned how to become medical
specialists, who became famous around the
world. This ancient civilization discovered a
way to preserve the human body after death.
