MONTESSORI BOTANY : Parts of a Bulb

Bulb

The bulb is a stem that grows beneath
the ground. The bulb is short and thick.
The bulb has a large number of crowded,
overlapping, fleshy leaves. The fleshy
leaves protect the developing part inside.

 Stem

The stem of the bulb is the main
part of the bulb. The stem is the part
of the bulb that grows straight up.

Bud

The bud of the bulb is the
beginning development of leaves.
The bud is inside the bulb.

Disk

The disk of the bulb is the
lowest portion of the bulb. The
disk is just above the roots.

   Roots

The roots of the bulb draw water
and minerals from the soil to the bulb.

     Fleshy Leaves

The fleshy leaves of the bulb are
the modified leaves of the bulb.
The fleshy leaves surround
the stem of the bulb.
