Renaissance Religion
The Renaissance is named in part for
a period when people questioned old beliefs.
Many ideas and the power of the church came
into question. Martin Luther was a monk who
protested against the narrow teaching of the
Catholic church. He and his followers formed a
new Christian sect that became known as the
Protestant church. At first this caused a great
deal of fighting and war between religious
groups, until people learned to be more
tolerant of those who had different beliefs.
