The Bird
A two-legged animal with feathers
and wings that lays eggs. Most birds
can fly. All lay eggs with hard shells.
Head
The front part of a bird containing
the eyes, mouth and brain.
Eyes
The eyes are large and located
on the side of the bird's head.
Legs
The limbs on which the bird
supports itself and walks.
Bill
A bird's bill, especially one
that is strong and hooked and
useful in striking or tearing. The
bill is also used for feeding,
nest building, and self-defense.
Wing
The part of a bird by which it
flies. The wing is curved on top
and flat on the bottom to give
the airflow needed to fly.
Breast
The upper front part of the
bird's body, the chest. The breast
is rounded to help the bird cut
through the air in flight.
Feet
The end part of the leg of the bird.
The feet are used for grasping
and perching. They have a locking
mechanism to allow the bird to
sleep on a branch without falling.
Tail
The hindmost part of the bird.
The end of the back on most
vertebrates. The tail helps the bird
keep its balance while perching.
