Petiole
Leaves are made up of tiny little things
that are like the bricks of a building.
These tiny things are called cells. It is
in the cells that the plant makes food.
Therefore, each of these cells
must reach the light.
Veins
The veins in the leaf help the cells
reach the light. These veins are made of
a harder material and help to support the
leaf. They are also hollow like pipelines.
And like pipelines they carry water to the
cells so that food can be made; then they
carry food to the other parts of the plant.
This part is called the blade. The blade
is the main surface area of the leaf.
Stipules
The stipules of the leaf are little
leaflets at the base of the petiole.
The stipules may be separated from
each other or joined to each other.
Petiole
The petiole attaches the leaf to the stem
and helps to turn the leaf to the stem.
